Surry Hills is less than a 2 km walk from the CBD and is fast becoming one of the city's most fashionable residential and
cafe society quarters. Until the 1980's Surry Hills was a predominantly working class suburb. But gentrification and the move back to inner city
areas by professional and business people has seen Surry Hills transform without losing its charms.
Many of the area's most charming old industrial and retail buildings have been completely refurbished and transformed into
highly sought-after residential properties.
Attractions
In recent years Crown Street, Elizabeth Street, Devonshire Street and parts of Bourke Street and Cleveland Street, have
seen the development of trendy new restaurants and cafes. The area's grand old hotels and public bars have been made over into quality all night entertainment and music venues.
The advent of the Eastern Distributor and some welcome traffic rearrangements have given back Surry Hills' impressively
tree-lined streets and small parks to those that reside in the area.
Facilities
When you are this close to the city, you can do your day-to-day local shopping at places most Sydneysiders only visit on

Hills. Just a short walk away you'll find the shopping haven of Oxford Street, also famed for its nightlife scene.
Surry Hills also offers a vast range of cafes and restaurants. Galleries, parks, museums, pubs and clubs are all on tap
for Surry Hills residents. The area is also home to many of Sydney's antique shops and restoration business.
Fox Studios, the Hordern Pavilion and Oxford Street cinemas are within a short distance. News Limited's headquarters are in Surry Hills, and the area is a well-known meeting place for media people.
